Golf Course Update | February 2023

Dear Patrons,

Whew, it’s so nice to be open again seeing all of our residents and seasonal guests. So far the feedback has been positive with few exceptions. Leading into the opening there were many days wondering how the new layout would be received. I can say from what has been conveyed back to me that most have enjoyed the uniqueness of the layout with wider fairways, rectangular greens, rectangular bunkers, and more greens nearer to the water features. The opening up of these features has given the players better vistas on the course and has brought more interest into the shots.

We have reported hole-in-ones on 2, 5, 8, and 14 so far. Yes number 5 the par four! A course record (65) was recorded from the Championship tees by Spencer Schindler. He tipped it out at 7,009 yards. This record is unofficial as we will set an official course record during individual tournament play. I expect Spencer will have a go at it again as this is where he played his junior golf and also on the Flagler College team.

Golf Carts with GPS are still on the horizon with no set date yet from Yamaha. Obviously we can’t wait to get these for many reasons, primarily for dependability. TGPS will also help pace of play, and control of fleet location. We all know that the new course wasn’t fully grown in prior to opening, and the GPS will allow us to keep carts out of designated areas and allow those areas to grow in better. Of course, no one is guilty of driving in thin areas, too close to the greens, or off the cart path on any par three. This system will not allow golfers to drive in restricted areas.

Gray flags... that’s a oops on us and we have since ordered yellow and will switch those out as soon as they arrive. Gray was one of the colors we used in the club house and we missed. The problem wasn’t discovered until we put them out, which was the first day. The gray ones will be available in the pro-shop for purchase when the yellow flags arrive.

Most GPS devices have been updated. Almost all require the user to download the new course from a computer. Some of the older devices will not be updated by the providers. If your device still has not been updated, I encourage you to reach out to your provider and encourage them to update. The golf course has already done this to all we were knowledgeable about, it is now up to them to facilitate.

We are going to do our first movie night at the golf course on May 12th. We will be showing “Freaky Friday” at dusk (8:00 p.m.) on the 10th tee. This will be weather permitting, as it’s outside. More details will be shared on the website as we get nearer to the event.

Twilight golf rates will be moving to 2:00 p.m. starting on Sunday March 12th with Daylight Savings Time. We have updated times on the website both in the booking engine and under rates. Please make note of this while booking your reservations.

As always, I would like to express my gratitude to you for your patience during the renovation and support now that we are open. It has been my pleasure serving you here.

Regards,
